Great article! Any recommendations on a book or articles for team building for youth teams? Every summer I work with a group primarily made up of youth to put on a 3 day program for middle schoolers. Every year I wish I had some good team building exercises to do with them during our orientation.
Great to hear from you Kaja. Good for you working with middle-schoolers! It's been forever since I've done that : ) You're so right wanting to do team building exercises with them. Working on a team is a skill not a theory, therefore it is learned by doing. I've found that Group Publishing has some of the best resources for stuff like this. Also, I do a game called Lost on the Moon. I'd be happy to send it to you via email, bill@billzipp.com.
Thank you for your kind words, Karen. You're exactly right, fighting fair--iron sharpening iron--is critical for good decision making. Most of us avoid this kind of productive conflict. The choir room and Monta Vista High School, that does take me back : ) I was in the hospital when the Challenger exploded having knee surgery. I got to watch the footage over and over and over again through a haze of anesthesia. Odd experience!
